Lisandro Martinez has been officially unveiled as a Man United player, with the first pictures of the Argentine now released.
Manchester United Football Club confirmed they’d agreed a deal to sign Lisandro Martinez well over a week ago now, though all went quiet on that front.
Well, after releasing the first photos of Christian Eriksen in United colours yesterday, today was Martinez’s turn after finally completing his transfer to Old Trafford.
The Argentine, nicknamed ‘The Butcher’, worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax – winning their Player of the Year award last season.
Aged 24, Martinez comes with a high reputation, while also already being well-drilled in Ten Hag’s style of play. The club announced the transfer was 100% complete today. Before photos of United’s new signing shortly followed via social media.

After making 177 appearances for the Dutch club, Martinez now moves to England and the Premier League. Questions are already being raised about the height of United’s new centre-back, though I firmly believe he’s going to prove people wrong.
The fact that Martinez has worked with Ten Hag before means he can slot straight into the team from day one. Sure, it’ll take some time before he’s fully up to speed, though the only way he’ll start to build that rapport with his new teammates is by playing.
You’d hope that this deal has been done soon enough for Martinez to feature in one of the two friendly matches taking place this weekend – giving us United fans a first chance to see the Argentine in action.
Upon signing, Martinez said:
“It’s an honour to join this great football club. I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United. There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that, under this manager and coaches, and together with my new team-mates, we can do it.
“I want to thank Ajax and their fans for all the support they gave me. I had an unbelievable time there but feel the moment is right to test myself in another environment. Now I am at the perfect club to do this.”
Welcome to the biggest club in the world, Lisandro!
