Five clubs interesting in taking James Garner on loan: report

Manchester United Football Club have always been known for their ability to put faith in youth and let them flourish.

We’ve seen that on full display under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term – though there simply aren’t enough minutes for everyone. After all, there’s several young up-and-comers progressing through the ranks right now.

Amongst those is James Garner. Us Red Devils supporters have been calling for the young midfielder to get his first-team chance since October. He did make his debut in a Europa League game against Partizan back in October – though we’ve seldom seen him since…

Now, it looks as though Garner is being targeted on a short-term basis. That’s according to The Athletic, who state that the 18-year-old is attracting loan interest aplenty amid a lack of first-team playing time for the Reds.

Amongst the clubs who’re keen on adding Garner are Sunderland, Wigan Athletic, Blackpool, Fleetwood Town and Doncaster Rovers. A James Garner loan does make sense, let us tell you why…

Understandably, Garner would have to drop down a couple of divisions, but he’s still young and if United aren’t going to play him with regularity, then why not let him get those all-important minutes elsewhere?

It doesn’t make sense to keep him on the fringes of the first-team squad, and I was of the opinion that the game yesterday against Tranmere was the perfect opportunity. He didn’t even make the bench.

U21s football is now below Garner. The midfielder has achieved all he can at that level, so what’s the point in continuing to let him play there when it is no longer benefitting his career?

Honestly, if I were Solskjaer a James Garner loan agreement makes sense and I’d be looking at shipping him of in the short-term as quickly as possible. He was seldom used on 2019’s tour, but he did score once against Leeds United. I’d like to see the club hand him even more opportunity come this June as it’s the least he deserves…
