Florian Wirtz is being eyed by Man United, with the Bayer Leverkusen man in good form.
Manchester United have mostly enjoyed success when buying younger players and honing their talent. It’s a mantra that Erik ten Hag should get back to, in our opinion. Big-money signings come with infinitely more pressure from the jump. More often than not, they do not work at Old Trafford.
It’s why the Reds should revert to type. Ten Hag’s biggest success stories are the lesser-known signings and academy players. Look at Alejandro Garnacho as the prime example of that.
Now, the club are being linked with one of the hottest talents in the world; Florian Wirtz.
It’s Sky Sports Germany with the claim. They state that the 20-year-old attacker is being ‘closely watched’ by Man United at this moment in time.
The Red Devils are ‘scouting’ Wirtz according to their information. Although no offer for the player has been made, nor has contact with his representatives, though Sky Sports Germany state that it ‘will happen’.
Wirtz, a winger by trade, could add an awful lot of quality to this United side in a real position of need. Ten Hag needs week-in-week-out production from his wide men and that’s something he is not getting right now.
Sky Sports Germany believe that Leverkusen hope they can keep ahold of Wirtz for one more season, though if the young German keeps performing at such a high level, there could be a real dogfight for his signature in the summer of 2024.
United will no doubt be looking to remain at the front of that queue, though I would not be surprised if there’s serious competition for Wirtz’ signature.
