For Antonio Valencia, the 2018/19 season has been one to forget. Manchester United have sparingly used the man from Ecuador, who’s now at the ripe old age of 33.

It looks for all the world the make-shift right-back is headed for the Old Trafford exit door this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tries to mould the squad into one that suits his playing style.

Now, according to Area Deportiva, translated by Mirror Football, it is being reported that Valencia has a two-year offer to head to the MLS when his contract winds down.

At this stage in his career it makes perfect sense for all involved. Valencia has been an outstanding servant for United, that will never change. However, it’s clear that we cannot offer him the playing time he deserves, while Solskjaer doesn’t really have any plans to utilise the Ecuadorian on a regular basis.

I guess at the end of the day, that’s football. If he cannot perform at the desired level then so be it. We’ll wish him well and Valencia will always be looked back on as an excellent player for United. He’s had some great memories here and we have a lot to thank him for.
