Former coach: You’d pick this former Man United player over Hummels

Manchester United have always been known as a club that has a conveyor belt of world-class talent coming through, and that is no different right now. Jose Mourinho has handed plenty of starts to the likes of Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, who have both done well.

However, according to former youth coach Paul McGuinness, Manchester United have let a real star leave already; and he has hinted that they should buy this individual back.

The man in question is Michael Keane, who made his England debut against Germany on Wednesday night – and acquitted himself very well. McGuinness compared the Burnley player to Mats Hummels, before claiming he’d pick Keane over the German right now.

“A year or so ago, United were being linked with Hummels. If you watched that game against Germany and you were looking for a player for the future, you’d pick Michael Keane above Hummels.” The Telegraph quote McGuinness as saying.

“He’s quicker, better in the air and decent with his feet. He’s not as experienced as Hummels but he knows the club, he’s a United player really in that sense, so he’d tick a lot of boxes. He has the potential to be a really top player. He’s smoother on the ball or at least as good as the central defenders United have at the moment, so of course he could [be successful].”

It would be great to get him back involved, but obviously, Keane wouldn’t come cheap. Manchester United have been linked with a sensational move to bring him back but they’d now face stiff competition.

I guess that’s just football. You can never tell exactly how a player is going to do, and it’s fair to say that at the time, the Red Devils made the right decision to sell the centre-back.

Credit to him for not giving up, though, and sticking with it. He’s been performing brilliantly for Burnley ever since he moved there, and right now, he’s definitely one of England’s best centre-backs.
