Former Man United player, Louis Saha, believes the club should opt against signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
Manchester United Football Club have made some astute signings this summer, while the club also deserve credit for selling some fringe players who have struggled to break into the team on a regular basis.
Recently, rumours of a potential Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling swap deal came to light, while the Chelsea winger is said to be open to an Old Trafford switch this summer.
After falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge, the Englishman is now looking for his next home. However, former United striker, Louis Saha, believes Sterling shouldn’t be signed by the Reds this summer.
The Frenchman believes Sterling doesn’t fit the bill, despite the fact that he thinks United need to find some ‘extra flair’. Saha would prefer to see those minutes given to a fully fit and firing Marcus Rashford.
Check out what Louis Saha had to say in full here:
“He’s a great player and I don’t understand why he’s in the situation he’s in at Chelsea. I don’t really understand Chelsea at all,” he told Betfred.
“Due to his age, I don’t see Raheem fitting the bill for Manchester United. I know that we need to find that extra flair, but I would prefer to see Marcus Rashford on top form rather than signing another player in the same position.
“I don’t see the benefits from that situation. I’d prefer to see an attacking midfielder, which is what Jadon Sancho is.”
Honestly, I am in agreement with Saha, but for different reasons. I just don’t think Sterling is good enough anymore. He’s never dazzled when playing United over many seasons, while it feels like his best performances have come at international level.
He’d also cost a pretty penny in terms of weekly wage as he’d likely look for something close to the £300k+ a week he’s currently on at Chelsea. I genuinely do not see United giving him anywhere close to that amount, assuming they were keen on bringing him in.
If I’m being brutally honest, this feels like an absolute non-starter so I don’t think Saha has to worry about Sterling signing for United in the next few days.
