Mason Mount has been tipped to have a ‘big season’ by former Man United striker, Andy Cole.
Last summer, Manchester United made Mason Mount their marquee signing, handing the midfielder the number seven shirt upon his arrival. It’s fair to say the Englishman didn’t live up to the hype. Predominantly due to the fact that he just couldn’t stay fit at all.
This time around, Mount came through pre-season unscathed and he has looked sharp in that #10 role in Bruno Fernandes’ absence. Erik ten Hag is clearly a big fan of the former Chelsea man so I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds a place in the team for the midfield maestro.
The 25-year-old United star has also been tipped for a ‘big season’ by none other than ex-Red Andy Cole. He alluded to the fact that Mount’s 2023/24 campaign was a ‘write off’ but he now has a clean slate to start again and prove his worth.
When asked directly about Mount, the former United striker responded:
“The good thing about Mason is that he’s looked after himself during the summer and got himself fit. He had a lot of injuries last season, which I heard stemmed from his back, and during pre-season he looked like the kid that played at Derby and the kid that started for Chelsea.” Cole told Betfred.” He’s another player that will be looking to force the manager’s hand and get in the team early doors. He’s been very lively, really positive and he’s another player that can have a big season at Manchester United. Last season was a bit of a write off for him, but it’s a clean slate and he can go again and get himself back in the team.”
I really do believe Mount could be like a new signing this time around. He can perform without the pressure too, due to the fact that nobody is expecting much from him after his disastrous first campaign.
The ex-Chelsea man brings bags of energy, effort and most importantly, quality, to the midfield. He’ll offer a different problem to opposing defenders on a match-by-match basis and I genuinely believe he’ll be an important player.
Initially, he’s not someone who is going to start every game. Largely due to the fact that both Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes exist. However, that third midfield spot is certainly up for grabs, particularly if no new midfield signing is made this summer.
There’s also a chance that Mount is given minutes in a more advanced role. His versatility could mean the Englishman is deployed in numerous positions this time around.
