Former United midfielder and now full-time member of the reserve coaching staff Nicky Butt, will take charge of the United XI side heading to Ireland tonight to take on Waterford. This will be Butt’s first attempt at managing a side, whilst reserve manager Warren Joyce remains in England to work with the older reserve players.
That suggests that the side playing tonight will be a youthful one including match winner from a few days ago, Tom Lawrence. Nevertheless it gives Nicky Butt a good opportunity to try his hand at management.
Joyce told ManUtd.com
“Some of the games will be split up into older and younger groups and we’ll try and give everyone as near to 90 minutes as we can,”
“Butty will go with the younger group to Ireland, taking over the other team, and we’ve got quite a few first-teamers coming into training to train with the older ones.
“It’s obviously a good opportunity for Nicky as well. There are a few first-teamers coming in who need picking up and will train with the older lads. As I’ve said, it’ll be split between the younger and older groups.”
Squad for the game against Waterford: Gollini, Sutherland; Weir, McNair, Love, Rowley; Pereira, Rudge, Rothwell, Adarabioyo; Lawrence, Barmby, Byrne, Wilson.
