Manchester United’s final game of the season is here. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an opportunity to give youth a chance in an attempt to at least give Red Devils fans something to look forward to going into the 2019/20 campaign.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, four youngsters are included in Solskjaer’s squad for the game, all set could be in line to make their full debuts.
Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and James Garner bring a youthful exuberance to a 21-man squad that doesn’t contain Ander Herrera. Although Antonio Valencia was spotted – with the man from Ecuador set to get the send-off he so richly deserves.
With nothing to lose I sincerely hope that Solskjaer puts his trust in these kids from the start. Greenwood has been simply scintillating all year long at youth level, so why not see what he can do?
The same goes for Tahith Chong who has been threatening to break into the main squad for a year or so now. Let’s start the pair because our attack has struggled at times this season anyway. These guys could well provide a cutting edge that we’ve desperately been crying out for.
It feels as though Angel Gomes has been around for the longest, but he’s the one I have the most concerns about right now. They all look small and lightweight, which is only natural given their age, but Gomes in particular looks like he needs to hit the gym.
My surprise package is James Garner. With Ander Herrera not with the squad he has a real opportunity to get a start and show everyone just how good he can be.
I just hope that they all see at least some minutes, even if it’s as a late substitute.
