Franck Kessie ‘delighting’ Man Utd, Reds ‘in race’ for signing: report

Man United are still in the race to sign midfielder, Franck Kessie.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for this squad of players he’s built. It’s well documented that one area he wanted to make a signing in over the summer was midfield. That didn’t happen.

Several names were linked, including Franck Kessie. Recently, we learned that the Ivory Coast international had rejected another new contract offer from AC Milan. He could be available for free next summer. Now, we’ve been given another update on his future.

The story comes from Fichajes. They state that the 24-year-old midfielder is ‘delighting’ United, with the Reds ‘firmly in the race’ to make the signing.

However, as expected, they face stiff competition with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid both showing an interest to make the move on a free transfer.

Kessie’s stock continues to rise after some good performances in Serie A. This only adds further parties showing keenness on signing the midfielder.

It goes without saying, signing a player of Kessie’s calibre on a free transfer would be an astute piece of business. There’s very little risk and potentially massive upside to pulling this deal off.

Fichajes state that Milan will ‘have to make a great effort’ to retain Kessie, which leads us all to believe there’s a very good chance he’s playing his football elsewhere next term.

I genuinely do believe a low-ball offer in January from United wouldn’t be the worst idea. First and foremost, it gives us a jump-start on the competition, while AC Milan could be tempted as they can get some sort of transfer fee back for a player who could command great value under normal circumstances.

Would a Man United move for Franck Kessie make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
