Fred will not be released from Brazil duty early.
Manchester United are now on hiatus due to the international break – which couldn’t really have come at a worse time as the Red Devils were struggling beforehand. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is undoubtedly now sitting there mulling over our poor results.
Next up is a game against Leicester City. It goes without saying, that fixture will not be easy.
Well, our task has potentially been made much harder as Solskjaer looks set to be without one of his go-to players for this one.
According to the Daily Mail, Brazil have dealt United a blow, confirming that one key star won’t return from international duty early and he’ll miss the Reds’ next game against the Foxes.
Of course we’re talking about Fred, who will play a full part for his country during the international break. Brazil don’t play there last game until Friday, leaving little-to-no-time for our midfielder to get back in time for a Saturday 3pm kick-off a little over 24 hours later.
Fred is amongst a whole host of Premier League Brazilians who are in the same boat. All look set to miss the first Premier League game back – which is obviously some pretty poor planning on the part of UEFA/FA/FIFA.
Regardless of what us fans think of Fred, Solskjaer trusts him and always starts him in these big spots. The manager will now be forced into a tactical tweak through no fault of his own.
Whether that means Donny van de Beek finally gets a chance remains to be seen, though I still believe the more likely option is that Paul Pogba moves back into the heart of our midfield.
Regardless of who plays, I’d like to think that we’re good enough to get a positive result in this one.
