Manchester United could eventually end up paying €80million to sign Anthony Martial this summer, due to various clauses placed in his contract by his former side AS Monaco, and one club who could benefit heavily from that is the fellow French side Lyon.
Their preisdent, Jean-Michel Aulas, has told reporters about a clause in Martial’s contract from when they sold the striker to AS Monaco for a mere €5million.
“The rule that was established when we sold Anthony to Monaco, is that we would get 20% of any profit above €10m, meaning that if the global transfer fee is €50m, that’s 20% of €40m, so €8m.” Aulas began.
“And as you know, there’s €30m of clauses that are linked to Martial’s performances, and as part of that, we are getting 20% of the €30m, which will probably be earned over the next 3 to 4 years, so an extra €6m to add to the €8m we’ve already received.”
This means that Lyon could make anywhere up to €14million from Martial if all clauses are met, meaning their manager could have some extra money to spend in the future.
