Frenkie de Jong ‘on the verge’ of securing Man United transfer

Frenkie de Jong is edging closer to securing a move to Man United.

Manchester United Football Club are yet to make a signing, though this week has been a wholly positive one.

Tyrell Malacia looks close to making the move to Manchester, while Frenkie de Jong remains firmly on the radar.

The Dutch midfielder has been linked with the Red Devils all summer, with Erik ten Hag clearly intent on bringing his countryman to the Theatre of Dreams before the transfer window slams shut.

Yesterday evening, journalist Florian Plettenburg gave us a massive update on United’s pursuit of De Jong.

Apparently, he’s ‘on the verge’ of signing for United, with Plettenburg confirming that Ten Hag is the one pushing for the move.

Apparently, De Jong ‘could be’ presented at the weekend, with plans to use Old Trafford as the place to do that. The idea alone should tell you just how massive a coup this would be if United could pull it off.

United have been absolutely desperate for an elite-level midfielder over the last few years. With Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba both leaving, De Jong would certainly fill a gaping hole within the squad.

We need that midfielder who can control the play centrally, play the ball forward and take it on the half-turn. De Jong ticks all the boxes for the Ten Hag system, too.

Credit where it’s due. If United somehow manage to get this done, they deserve some applause. It wasn’t too long ago when De Jong was dead-set on staying at FC Barcelona. United have convinced both the player and the Catalan club to part with one of their prized assets.

Hopefully, we’re not waiting too much longer before an official announcement is made.

Do you think Frenkie de Jong will be a good piece of business for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
