Frenkie de Jong has had a change of heart and he’s now ready to join Man United next summer.

For anyone who closely followed the first summer transfer window with Erik ten Hag at the helm, Manchester United were heavily linked with a move to bring in Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman’s plan always felt the same – he wanted to remain at FC Barcelona and force his way into the starting line-up on a consistent basis. That still hasn’t happened, with De Jong struggling to start week-in-week-out.

Over at Old Trafford, United are making progress. Ten Hag has had some tough decisions, but thus far, the Dutchman has got all those choices right.

According to Fichajes, the top-class De Jong has had a change of heart about moving to the Theatre of Dreams. He, reportedly, now wants to join the club next summer.

I don’t mind De Jong waiting to see how it goes for Ten Hag at United before committing. After all, this club has been in decline for several years. However, I wouldn’t appreciate it if he’s using the club for the second time in two summers.

What’s annoying is that De Jong is the perfect midfielder for this team. Stick him in that midfield alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes. You’ve got an elite trio of players, with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Fred also more than capable of chipping in with some minutes here and there.

Honestly, I’d be thrilled to see this move happen, though if I’m United, I’d make 100% sure De Jong wants to be here before wasting more time trying to get him in. I guess it depends on whether Ten Hag feels that ship has sailed or not…
