Manchester United’s summer transfer window has gotten off to a slow start, but no doubt things will begin to pick up soon. Jose Mourinho has his list of targets, and it is in the hands of Edward Woodward to secure the right players before the start of the season.
The name that keeps popping up is Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid. Now this saga has taken another turn and it comes from the excellent Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio. He is claiming that Griezmann is indeed a target for United, but he is only the third choice; in behind Kylian Mbappe of AS Monaco and Alvaro Morata of Real Madrid.
To me, this is interesting. Mbappe is the man of the moment and he has had a truly breathtaking campaign for the Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. As an out and out striker he’d be perfect for pretty much any side in the world, but with Real Madrid reportedly lurking, it’d be hard to secure his signature.
Alvaro Morata is another player I like. He’s strong, a great finisher and copes well under pressure. With that said, I’m much more a fan of Griezmann’s than the Spaniard’s, and if we signed the Real Madrid man I’d be feeling quite underwhelmed.
When you compare both of their goalscoring records, Griezmann comes out on top pretty much every time, and there have been a lot of situations where the Frenchman has even played out wide.
For now, though, I guess we should just sit and wait and see what happens. Mourinho made four transfers last summer and got every single one of them correct. Until he gives us a reason to doubt him, then I’m more than happy with the work he is doing.
