From Sky: Manchester United targeting Premier League shot-stopper if De Gea leaves

Manchester United Football Club have been lucky enough to have one of the best goalkeepers in the world on their books for quite some time now; David de Gea. We’ve seen the Spaniard grow from a boy into a man, and the three-time Player of the Year has been a privilege to watch.

However, in my opinion, it has always felt likely that one day, the 26-year-old will indeed move back home to Spain, namely Real Madrid. Now Sky Sports News are claiming that Manchester United have eyed Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel as their first choice replacement for De Gea if he does indeed leave.

First of all, what a huge blow it would be if we were to lose ‘big Dave’. At times, he has single-handedly won the Red Devils points and without him, unfortunately, the only way is down.

As for Schmeichel, what a brilliant fairytale it’d be for the 30-year-old. As we all know his father Peter is one of the greatest players we’ve ever seen, and it would be fitting if his son came here and won trophies, just like his old man.

I like the Leicester goalkeeper, and if we’re being honest I don’t think we’d find many better than the Dane. He knows the Premier League well, is an excellent shot-stopper and he makes one-on-ones look easy. He’s also a brilliant distributor.

The Foxes haven’t had the best of campaigns and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lose some of their stars. Hopefully, the price-tag wouldn’t be too off-putting, either.
