Full agreement reached for Eric Bailly to leave man United on loan

Man United are set to let Eric Bailly leave on loan, with the Ivory Coast international off to Lyon.

For all their gaping holes within the first-team squad, Manchester United are actually incredibly well stacked at centre-back. Erik ten hag has four or five genuinely good options at that position.

The inevitability was that at least one of those guys were going to be moved on. Not only to free up space in the squad, but also generate some extra funds for Ten Hag to utilise in other areas.

Well, it seems as though it’s Eric Bailly who has drawn the short straw, with the Ivory Coast international all set for an exit for the 2022/23 term.

It’s Fabrizio Romano with the scoop, who claims that United and Lyon have a ‘full agreement’ in place, with the star set to leave on loan – presumably for the full season. It’s worth noting that the French club do have the option to buy Bailly permanently.

There can be no doubting Bailly’s ability and talent. He showed us all that during a debut season where he was absolutely excellent.

However, since then, injuries have 100% plagued his career. The ex-Villareal man has spent so long out on the treatment table, he hasn’t been able to start games regularly. That led to United acquiring the likes of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof. All leapfrogged Bailly in the pecking order and he never really recovered from that.

There’s no doubt that this move will do him the world of good, though it’s solely reliant on Bailly staying fit. If he manages to remain out of the treatment room for the full season, there’s every chance Lyon will buy him outright.
