You get the feeling that Jose Mourinho is walking on thin ice across Salford Quays.
Manchester United are in a mess right now, that’s directly translating into awful performances on the field.
With the self-proclaimed Special One’s future up in the air, that has led to contract uncertainty amongst the playing squad. The Mirror, per The Sun, state that no fewer than twelve players are in doubt about their United careers due to running down contracts.
As you can see from the names below, it’s an extensive list. Some players have the option for an extra year inserted within their deals, but others could be free to walk.
Manchester United players whose contract runs out at the end of the season:
1. David de Gea
2. Ashley Young
3. Luke Shaw
4. Antonio Valencia
5. Matteo Darmian
6. Chris Smalling
7. Phil Jones
8. Ander Herrera
9. Andreas Pereira
10. Juan Mata
11. Anthony Martial— UtdArena. (@utdarena) September 30, 2018
Obviously, a large portion of the guys above don’t want to commit to new deals if Mourinho remains in charge. He’s falling out with several members of the squad, which is a contributing factor to the utter dross football that is currently being played.
Losing David de Gea is the biggest concern. I’d also love to keep Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial around. Chris Smalling and Ashley Young have done okay, but as for the others, they can walk.
It’s an odd situation that must be on Edward Woodward’s mind. Does he stick or twist with the manager? I’m not sure, but it could be a tense few weeks at Old Trafford, with contractual negotiations only making the decision even tougher.
