Gary Neville explains why he thinks Man United will beat Liverpool

Manchester United takes on Liverpool on Saturday, with a real opportunity to cement their place as the ‘best of the rest’, behind Manchester City.

The rivalry with Liverpool is always intense, and taking on the Merseysiders is always the most exciting fixture in my opinion. Ahead of the game, United legend Gary Neville has had his say on the match, and he’s tipping his former employers to win.

“I always fancy United at home. With Liverpool, you have to get through that first half an hour, especially at Anfield, where they are a completely different proposition.” Neville told Sky Sports, per Here is the City.

“I’ve always thought that for Liverpool away from home they struggled with the size of the pitch, despite them not being hugely different on paper. It’s a lot harder for United to play at Anfield and a lot harder for Liverpool to play at Old Trafford, so I fancy United to win.”

As always, home-field advantage can never be understated. Jose Mourinho will be hoping the fans can roar the Red Devils home during the fixture, as no doubt it’ll be a tight encounter with either side not wanting to give too much away.

Liverpool are a dangerous outfit. Jurgen Klopp has that front-three playing some sublime football, and our defenders will have to be on their A-game to shut them out. In typical Mourinho fashion, don’t be surprised to see United sit back and look to hit their opponents on the counter-attack. For all their forward-thinking talent, they’re still susceptible at the back and that could be the key to the game from our point of view.

As long as United don’t lose the fixture, then second-place is still in their hands. However, playing for a draw is a dangerous game and I’d love to see Mourinho go out and take the game to Liverpool.
