Manchester United Football Club haven’t won a Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to call time on a glittering Red Devils managerial career.
From that moment on, this United team have been in gradual decline. I guess everyone expected the 20-time Premier League champions to go backwards without the best manager to ever do it – though perhaps not this much, certainly not this quickly…
Well yesterday, both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher drew up their ‘Premier League Team of the Decade’ for Sky Sports, as we draw closer to 2019’s end… Included in both teams was one United star – and there are no prizes for guessing who…

David de Gea has been by far and away the best shot-stopper in the country over that time period, it’s as simple as that. Without the superstar Spaniard I dread to think where this club would have finished in the league over the last half-decade or so.
As we all know, De Gea signed a shiny new contract earlier this year and his long-term future is now secure. The goal should be to build a top-quality defence around him, then actually come up with a semi-decent midfield and attack.
Back to this team of the decade, though… I know Virgil van Dijk has had an excellent couple of years, but come on now… Surely John Terry (thanks for Moscow, 2008) should be in the team? I’m also not sure Gareth Bale should be in Carragher’s side, either. As for the rest of the picks, they’re all pretty solid, and us United fans certainly can’t complain we’ve been short-changed…
