Gianluca di Marzio: Man United working on deal for talismanic striker, move is close

Manchester United are working on a deal that’ll see Zlatan Ibrahimovic sensationally return to Old Trafford once he returns from injury. That’s what the usually reliable Gianluca di Marzio writes, with the Italian journalist adding that a deal looks very close.

As we all know, the influential forward led the line for the Red Devils last term, before going down with a serious knee injury that ended his campaign. At this point in time, a return before the turn of the year is looking unlikely, but it seems as though Jose Mourinho is ready to take a gamble on the now 36-year-old.

This is a man who scored in excess of 25 goals during his debut season at the Theatre of Dreams, as well as being one of the most iconic figures in the game today.

However, I cannot help but think that this would be more of a hindrance than a help to us. That ship has sailed, and when you’re a man of his age spending so long out injured, that’s going to be hard to come back from.

I just don’t see how this would benefit United. They’ve moved on from Ibrahimovic, hence why they brought in Romelu Lukaku. To me, I’d much prefer us to give those minutes to a youngster from the academy, rather than paying Ibrahimovic an arm and a leg.
