Giorgi Mamardashvili ‘high’ on Man United’s list of goalkeeper targets

Man United have Valencia goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, high on their list of potential targets.

Understandably, talk of Manchester United potentially signing a new goalkeeper this summer has heightened after David de Gea’s horror show on Thursday.

The Spaniard put in a dreadful display, though those have been few and far between over his ten-year stay here in Manchester. Football can be a brutal business and Erik ten Hag has a pretty big decision to make.

To stick or to twist? Well, if he decides to roll the dice and bring in someone new, it seems like Giorgi Mamardashvili is the current frontrunner. The man from Georgia has been linked with a potential Reds switch already this season.

The latest information in the saga comes from Give Me Sport. They say that despite the fact De Gea has been offered a new deal, the Reds are looking at other options – including the Valencia man, Mamardashvili.

The 22-year-old is ‘high’ on the list of potential goalkeeper targets, with the shot-stopper rated at £45m by his current club.

Porto’s Diogo Costa and David Raya are the other names mentioned by Give Me Sport, while Dean Henderson is expected to be sold permanently. Jack Butland will depart when his loan deal ends, too. That leaves just De Gea and Tom Heaton.

Simply put, United have to bring in a keeper of some sort this summer. Be it a back-up with future number one potential, or a straight-up replacement for De Gea, money will have to be spent in that area of the field.

Mamardashvili is someone who could offer longevity, while also being the ideal fit for this Ten Hag system.
