The agents of Giorgi Mamardashvili were in England last week to speak with Man United, among other clubs, about a potential transfer.
It’s become common knowledge that Manchester United could move for a new goalkeeper this summer. The Old Trafford club have an absolute gem in David de Gea, though there are question marks about his stylistic fit.
The Spaniard, although a simply stunning shot-stopper, isn’t the best when playing out from the back. That’s something Erik ten Hag is keen to implement.
It bodes the question whether United will stick with De Gea, or twist and bring in someone new. There can be no doubt about it, bringing in someone new would be deemed as a risk.
Several keepers have been linked with an Old Trafford move, including the likes of Brentford’s David Raya. Today, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Giorgi Mamardashvili.
It’s 90min.com with the claim. They state that the agent of the 22-year-old was in England last week to ‘speak’ with United, and other Premier League sides, about a possible transfer.
Chelsea, Tottenham and most notably, Leicester, are amongst the other sides showing a keenness on signing the man from Georgia.
The Valencia shot-stopper has put in a number of impressive performances for the La Liga club of late, leading to interest from all over Europe.
What makes this an intriguing saga is the fact that the player is deemed ‘keen to leave’ this summer, while Valencia will not stand in his way.
In terms of asking price, around £30m should get a deal done – though Valencia would ask for more if they’re forced into selling to a fellow La Liga club.
In an ideal world, United could bring in Mamardashvili and allow him to sit in behind De Gea for a year or two, before taking the number one spot on a permanent basis. Somehow, I don’t believe the man from Georgia would be happy with that. He probably wants regular starts from day one.
