There’s a huge chance Hakan Calhanoglu is a Man United player for the 2021/22 term according to Christian Falk.
As we all know, Manchester United spent the summer chasing a winger. From Jadon Sancho to Ousmane Dembele, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eventually forced to start the campaign without a new right-sided attacker.
Another right-winger who has recently been linked with an Old Trafford switch is Hakan Calhanoglu. He’ll be available as a free agent next summer.
Today, we’ve been given the clearest indication yet that a United move for Calhanoglu could well be on the cards. The story comes from Sempre Milan, who spoke exclusively to Bild’s Christian Falk.
Falk states that the classy 26-year-old is almost certain to join United before the 2021/22 term, putting it at a 90% chance that the Turk makes the move to Old Trafford.
Furthermore, Falk states that talks have already begun with United and Calhanoglu’s entourage, with those already at an ‘advanced stage’. The ball is firmly in the player’s court as he’s available to discuss terms about leaving on a free transfer as early as January.
So where would Calhanoglu fit in?
Well, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard both have winding down contracts. What better way to replace them than with arguably the best player in Serie A this term? And on a free, too.
Calhanoglu would give us another dimension in a key area of need while being a relatively low-risk option due to the lack of a transfer fee.
If he plays at the same level as he is doing now, Calhanoglu would walk straight into the starting XI, make no mistake about that. For me, signing this guy feels like an easy decision.
