Hannibal Mejbri will not put pen on paper in regards to new Man United terms.
Manchester United Football Club have always had a way when it comes to harnessing young talent and developing youth. It’s what the Red Devils build their foundation on.
With the win-now mentality in full swing, the Old Trafford club have had less flexibility in that regard – though there’s still a vast array of talent on the books.
Midfielder Hannibal feels like he’s next in line for that first-team opportunity, though the decision has been made to send the Tunisia international out on loan. No doubt the regular first-team football will serve him well upon his return next summer.
Ahead of that looming loan, journalist Rich Fay has given us a snippet of information on Hannibal’s long-term future.
Apparently, the United youngster ‘won’t sign’ a new deal before this loan move is complete.
Hannibal has been offered a contract by the Reds, though the midfielder hasn’t agreed to it yet. Talks will continue to happen, though the club are relaxed about the situation. The player is theoretically tied down for another three years.
This feels like a bit of posturing from Hannibal’s side. Understandably, the young lad wants to be playing regularly. Why would he commit his future to a club who aren’t giving him minutes?
The good news for United is that time is on their side. This loan move away feels like the best move for all involved, with Hannibal still a little rough around the edges.
Regular playing time at Birmingham City could help fine-tune Hannibal’s overall game, while competing in the Championship is never easy. It’ll be an excellent learning curve for the 19-year-old.
