Hannibal reprimanded by Rangnick for ‘reckless’ performance

Man United manager Ralf Rangnick wasn’t best pleased with the Hannibal Mejbri cameo performance vs Liverpool…

Ralf Rangnick has undoubtedly taken a stricter view when it comes to managing these players. To be honest, I fully agree with that decision and I believe he’s been a breath of fresh air.

This squad has become far too comfortable over the last couple of years. The inmates are starting to run the asylum. Jesse Lingard wasn’t given the chance at an Old Trafford farewell, while the ruthlessness has continued with Hannibal Mejbri.

It’s The Metro with the story, citing information from ESPN. Rob Dawson states that the United starlet has been ‘reprimanded’ by Rangnick for a ‘reckless and erratic performance’ against Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.

Hannibal has since been dropped from the squad and relegated back down to the U23s, missing the last couple of senior games after his cameo – which most fans (myself included!) actually loved!

I saw Hannibal flying into tackles, working hard and looking to win back the possession. I viewed it as him fighting to defend the badge he proudly displays. Sadly, Rangnick took the opposite view and believed the Tunisia international was just too hot-headed.

Hannibal is a young man with bags of ability. Perhaps this is just another step on that learning curve. Rangnick wants his players to remain calm and not get emotional in the heat of battle, which is totally understandable.

No doubt a couple of games away from the limelight has Hannibal begging for another chance. No doubt he’ll learn from his overenthusiasm when the next chance comes calling. Perhaps that opportunity will come this weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion.

With Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic both on the way out this season, there’s a real opportunity for Hannibal to force his way into the United first-team on a regular basis. No doubt Erik ten Hag will be a keen onlooker over the course of a huge pre-season.
