Hannibal set for Man United exit as Fabrizio Romano confirms deal is close

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Hannibal Mejbri is now heading to Spain for his Sevilla medical tests ahead of a Man United exit.

Manchester United’s January window was all about moving on from those fringe players that are struggling at the club, while taking up a large portion of the wage budget.

Erik ten Hag has moved on Donny van de Beek, albeit on loan, as the only deal of note so far. However, Hannibal Mejbri may set to be about to depart.

The rumours linking him with a Sevilla move have been ramping up of late. The Tunisia international, who was asked to remain at United rather than head to AFCON, is now heading towards the exit door.

It’s Fabrizio Romano who provides the latest on that front, with the journalist confirm that the United fringe first-teaser is close to a Reds exit in a potential £17m deal.

Initially, it’ll be a loan to Sevilla, with the La Liga club having the option to buy for around £17m (20m euro).

Apparently, Hannibal is on his way to Spain for medical tests with Sevilla, as the deal is set to be signed today.

INEOS have requested a potential buy-back clause to be added into the contract. Presumably worth more than the £17m that Sevilla would have to pay to sign Hannibal outright.

Honestly, this feels like the right move. I think we’re clear in the belief that Hannibal is a decent player, though not ready to contribute at the highest level at this stage of his career.

Perhaps a move to Sevilla will allow him to play regularly and grow as a footballer, though it does feel like a win-win for United. They’re either getting a better player back from a successful loan, or earning a pretty decent transfer fee for a player who isn’t going to start week-in-week-out here at Old Trafford.
