Hargreaves: Man United should sign this player instead of Griezmann

Manchester United Football Club and their fans have been lucky enough to witness some truly outstanding footballers over the years. Now, with the summer transfer window looming, the Red Devils are beginning to be linked with a whole host of top quality stars.

The rumour that just doesn’t seem to be going away is a potential move for Atletico Madrid star, Antoine Griezmann. The 26-year-old is making a name for himself out in Spain, and is rapidly emerging as one of the best in the world.

However, former Manchester United player-turned-pundit Owen Hargreaves believes there is an alternative that the Old Trafford club should consider…

“You have to look at what you have and what you desperately need, I think they need a Dybala-type player,” Hargreaves said on air whilst on BT Sport, quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“Everybody speaks about Griezmann, I think Griezmann would be terrific. But I think Dybala, he’s a little bit younger, he’s going to be a superstar if he isn’t already.”

“He would be magnificent. That star power that Ibra brought, I think Dybala could bring that as well.”

Paulo Dybala is the emerging star at the moment. We saw that in the Champions League double-header against FC Barcelona where he absolutely took them apart in the first leg.

At 23, he is three years younger than Griezmann and that would give him more longevity. Their playing style is very similar and both are left-footed. However, I would still give the nod to the Frenchman over his Argentinian counterpart, purely because he has been around for a few years longer and that experience could make all of the difference.

We have plenty of young stars in and around the squad at the moment, just look at Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Bringing in Griezmann would bring a bit more know-how and experience to the table, rather than adding another up and coming star.

At the end of the day, either would be sublime signings and this is an area of the field that United do need to invest in, particularly after the injury that Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered. The 35-year-old has found the back of the net 28 times in his debut campaign here, and those goals will need replacing one way or another…
