Harry Amass pictured in Man United senior training after summer move to Reds

Harry Amass was drafted into first-team training yesterday, following his summer move to Man United.

Manchester United’s success has largely come from giving younger players their chance at the highest level over many years.

Erik ten Hag has tried to reinstall this mantra, after a period of splashing big-money on bang average players. The Dutchman is also party guilty in this regard, mainly by signing Antony.

Anyway, the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are shining right now. Long may that continue. There’s no doubt a long list of players waiting in the wings, trying to follow in their footsteps.

Among them is Harry Amass. The young left-back only signed for the Reds last summer, though yesterday, the United starlet was called into first-team training. No doubt this will be a huge confidence-booster for a young man who is trying to make a real name for himself sooner rather than later.

What we have to remember here is that Amass is just sixteen years of age. United signed the left-back from Watford just last summer, though all the word out of the club suggests that he is one to keep an eye on for the future.

What we have to be careful of here is tempering our expectations. Amass is still so young and realistically, it’ll be at least a few years before he’s even ready to sniff genuine first-team opportunities.

We’ve seen it time and time again with younger players who have trained with the first-team, before they’re never seen or heard of again. It is a great confidence booster for the young man, who will no doubt be relishing the opportunity to train with the likes of Luke Shaw.

This is just the start for Amass, who’ll be hoping to continue learning his trade over the next few months. No doubt he’s pushing hard for a spot on the upcoming pre-season tour, but a lot can happen between now and then.
