Harry Maguire carrying ‘slight injury’

Man United captain Harry Maguire has picked up a slight injury in pre-season.

With Manchester United playing their first pre-season game tomorrow against Liverpool, the Old Trafford club will no doubt be ramping up their training sessions.

As much as it pains us, Liverpool is the level we need to reach right now. Matching them physically is going to be a huge challenge, though Erik ten Hag will be doing his utmost to implement that energetic style.

Obviously, it’s going to take time. Though tomorrow will be a good barometer for Ten Hag to see how his players are progressing.

Well, one man who may not be involved in that is club captain Hary Maguire.

Apparently, the United star is carrying a ‘slight injury’. That’s according to David McDonnell, who added that he’s training away from the main group over in Bangkok. Whether or not he’s able to feature vs Liverpool remains to be seen, though I’d be surprised if he’s risked.

Maguire, who has been given the backing of his manager to keep ahold of the captain’s armband, is no doubt hoping for a real bounce-back campaign.

The Englishman has the game to flourish in the Ten Hag system and while it would have been nice to see him involved tomorrow, pre-season is long and there are plenty more games to come.

As McDonnell states, this injury isn’t a serious one so I don’t suspect we’ll be without Maguire for too long. Perhaps United’s second pre-season game on Friday against Melbourne Victory is a realistic possibility for the skipper.

On the flip side, this gives Ten Hag a chance to assess other players. I’d personally love to see what Charlie Savage can do, with the young Englishman no doubt chomping at the bit to get his big chance.
