Harry Maguire will feature in the matchday squad for Man United’s game against Arsenal tonight.
Manchester United have definitely looked better under Michael Carrick. Credit to the Englishman and his coaching staff for helping out in the short-term.
The energy seems to be back in the legs of the players, which probably has something to do with the new manager coming in.
Anyway, Carras will lead this squad into battle for what looks like the last time at home to Arsenal. I’m just delighted he’s getting the opportunity to be introduced to the Old Trafford crowd as manager at least one – he deserves to hear those fans singing his name.
Ahead of that game, our gaffer met the media and gave us all the all-important team news, admitting that one Man United star will return to the squad following his absence due to suspension; Harry Maguire.
Check out what the interim gaffer had to say here:
“Nothing really new,” said Carrick to ManUtd.com. “There are always niggles at this time of year, playing a lot of games. There are always players you’re waiting on a little bit, to an extent.
“Obviously, Harry is coming back into the squad after his suspension but we’ll see who is fit and available for tomorrow [Thursday].”
Whether or not the skipper will start remains to be seen as I actually thought Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly partnered rather well at the weekend. It felt like the perfect blend of on-ball skill and aggressive defending.
Let’s not beat around the bush, Maguire has struggled massively of late. His form just hasn’t been the same since that European Championship final disappointment – much to United’s downfall.
Maybe it’s best if he sits out a game or two in order to re-ignite that fire in his belly. I still genuinely believe he helps form the best centre-back partnership we can offer when he’s at the top of his game (alongside Raphael Varane).
Either way, it’s good to have him back available for selection and no doubt he’s feeling super fresh after over a week off.
