Harry Maguire has hinted at a potential exit from Man United, if he continues to remain a back-up option.

Manchester United Football Club have been struggling on the field to start this campaign, though some of that can be attributed to injury woes and off-field issues looming overhead.

Defensively, United have been decimated. Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all been missing with problems. Sergio Reguilon has also been absent more recently, too.

It has thrust Harry Maguire back into the team, after a summer of off-season rumours linking him with a move to West Ham United. Obviously, that deal eventually fell through, though the intentions of the club in regard to the Englishman became perfectly clear.

Now, while away with England, the United star has hinted at a potential exit from the club if a lack of minutes under Ten Hag does continue.

Check out what Maguire had to say in full here:

‘I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month. If it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things,’ said Maguire, per the Daily Mail.

‘It’s not my decision whether I start the next game for United or not. In a couple of weeks, I’ll go back and find out.

‘I have belief in my ability and it’s been tough. I want to play games and feel important to the club.

At the moment, I haven’t been playing anywhere near as much as I would like. That is the bottom line.’

Obviously, Harry believes in his own ability. The Englishman was actually excellent for large stretches under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though as his minutes dwindled, so did his confidence. Last season, Maguire barely played, even falling behind Luke Shaw in the central defensive pecking order. There’s only so long a player of his calibre will be happy playing second fiddle.

The problem for Maguire is I do not see it changing. United play infinitely worse football when he’s in the defence and Ten Hag will know this. He seems to make the whole back line nervous when out on the field and it’s a massive shame as there’s a quality player in there.

Will a January move away materialise? It certainly feels possible after these quotes.

For me, it just comes back to last summer when he refused a move to West Ham. I understand that he’s on more money here in Manchester, but he can’t have his cake and eat it too. You either go away and paly regularly or stay here and pick up a heftier pay cheque.

Do you think there’s any way in which Harry Maguire will start games regularly again? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
