Harry Maguire has been named in the latest BBC Team of the Week, after his outstanding individual display vs Aston Villa.
Manchester United seem to have got their act together since the turn of the year. It’s no coincidence that when Erik ten Hag has an almost fully fit squad to choose from, the results are looking far better.
Credit where it’s due. Both the Dutchman and the dressing room could have easily wilted under the pressure. Instead, they’re fighting for their top four lives right now. Sunday’s gritty win against Aston Villa was yet another example of that.
Although Lisandro Martinez is now going to be missing for the next couple of months, defensively, United look far stronger and secure. Against Villa, United have Harry Maguire to thank for that. He was nothing short of outstanding.
As a result, Maguire was the sole United star to be named in the latest BBC Team of the Week. His defensively display was incredible, while he also played his part up the other end of the pitch.

Maguire was undoubtedly the defensive rock when Aston Villa were pushing hard to get back into the game. Big tackles. Important headers. Key interceptions and blocks. The Englishman was doing it all, roared on by the travelling away fans.
The centre-back also looked a threat in the opposing box, too. He kept using his height to his advantage, constantly winning the first header which led to openings – including the Rasmus Hojlund goal, after a well-timed flick on from the ex-United captain.
These are the sort of performances we expected to see from Maguire when he was signed from Leicester City. We’re now watching a fully confident Maguire playing his best football again and I’m absolutely delighted for the man, particularly as he has come under so much scrutiny over the last couple of seasons.
Congratulations, Harry!
