Harry Maguire not expected to be fit for Europa League final

Harry Maguire looks unlikely to be fit enough to play a part in Manchester United’s Europa League final vs Villareal on Wednesday…

Manchester United’s Premier League season ended yesterday, with the Red Devils finishing in second place. The improvement is there for all to see, though there is still much work ahead.

Before a huge summer transfer window comes our Europa League final. Make no mistake about it, Villareal will be a tough opponent so we’ll have to be at our absolute best.

Our first-teamers were all rested against Wolves yesterday in order to protect them from injury. Sadly, though, United are expected to be without one key player for the final; Harry Maguire…

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would confirm the injury blow after full-time yesterday, leaving the gaffer with a huge dilemma ahead of our trip to Gdansk.

“He doesn’t look great.” Solskjaer told Simon Stone.

“He has to train on Tuesday when we are over there.”

I think that it was always leaning towards Maguire missing this one, which is a massive shame as the United captain has been amongst their most consistent performers ever since he arrived in Manchester.

Now, Solskjaer has to choose who’ll partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of our defence. It looks like a straight shot between Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly, both looked pretty good against Wolves yesterday.

For me, I’d go for Bailly as he’s just that little bit more experienced. Plus, I actually think he and Lindelof make a pretty decent pairing as they cover each other’s weaknesses well.

As for Maguire, it’s now about getting himself fit enough to play in the European Championships this summer. Obviously, it’s not how the ex-Leicester man would have wanted his domestic season to end and no doubt he’ll be gutted to miss out on United’s biggest game in a couple of years.

Get well soon, Harry!
