For at least a month Manchester United have been constantly linked with a move to sign Leicester City centre-half Harry Maguire.
Well, according to The Independent, things are definitely progressing in a positive direction…
In their title, they state that the Maguire signing is ‘imminent’ while their byline adds that an announcement is ‘expected shortly’ as the Red Devils look to have finally bolstered their defence during this transfer window.
The transfer fee will total £80million, with around £10million of that based on add-ons and performance-based clauses – leading us to believe that the Reds will fork out £70million upfront.
If all those clauses are met then the 26-year-old Maguire would become the most expensive defender in footballing history – but United badly need a player like Slabhead in their defence.
The article from the Independent also states that United feel Maguire will ‘complement the development’ of an ever-improving Victor Lindelof. On paper, this partnership does feel like one that could blossom.
Hopefully, Edward Woodward can push through a deal as quickly as possible and potentially move on to signing other players before next month’s deadline.
The Independent adds that in that regard, United are still working on a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
