Harry Maguire is ready to fight for his place at Man United, rather than moving elsewhere.
Manchester United’s club captain, Harry Maguire, has struggled for consistent minutes this term. Erik ten Hag made it pretty clear from day one that he wanted to move in a different direction.
With Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez both injured, the Englishman has had to step up when needed – though even he’s been in the treatment table recently.
In terms of the future, you always feel like Ten Hag would prefer to move away from Maguire. After all, it’d make his decision about changing the club’s permanent captain far easier.
The latest from the Daily Mail certainly makes for interesting reading, with Maguire not intent on giving his position within that United dressing room up easily…
They claim that despite Maguire growing ‘increasingly fearful’ he may have to leave, the United player ‘wants to stay and fight’ for his place at the club, despite falling down the pecking order. However, the ex-Leicester man is concerned that staying could hinder his chances of starting for England at the European Championships next summer.
Maguire has attracted interest from West Ham, Inter Milan and AS Roma, though he’d have to accept a wage cut to move to any of those sides.
The Englishman still has a couple of years left on his deal, so it’s easy to see why they’d like to move him on. It’s also easy to see why he’d prefer to stay. This is his job, after all…
In an ideal world, a transfer away for Maguire will materialise. It’s at that point now where whatever he does, the fans have made their mind up on him.
