Here at Old Trafford Faithful, Monday 5th August 2019 will be forever known as ‘Slabhead day’ as we’ve had that much content surrounding our new centre-half – and there’s still more to come.
Well, Harry Maguire is now officially a Manchester United player and it feels great. Amongst the burning questions was what squad number will the centre-back be given?
According to The Independent, it has been confirmed that the 26-year-old Maguire will wear the iconic number five jersey, donned by greats like Rio Ferdinand and Gary Pallister down the years.
The #5’s last owner was actually Marcos Rojo who has since switched to the #16, although I’ll personally be surprised if the Argentine is still at Old Trafford come the end of the transfer window.
Maguire certainly has some big shoes to fill, there’s no doubt about that. However, we should be confident that the Leicester City man can come in and make an instant impression.
He’s a tough-tackler, great in the air, calm and composed on the ball while also willing to bark orders at his teammates if needed. The world-record fee will be more than worth it if Maguire can live up to expectations.
With a full week of training under his belt, we hopefully will see Maguire take to the field against Chelsea this coming Sunday!
