England couldn’t, could they?! Gareth Southgate’s men destroyed Panama 6-1 in their second group game, joining Belgium at the top of the table with six points.
As you’d imagine, the Manchester United contingent did their fair share of good work, with Jesse Lingard, once again, proving he’s capable of producing the spectacular on the brightest stage.
Our Warrington-born-winger firstly won the Three Lions a penalty thanks to a brilliant run. Shortly after, he was in on the action himself as he scored an absolute pearler from outside the area.
It was a display of real maturity from a man who has grown so much under Jose Mourinho’s guidance. Calm, cool and collected, Lingard always makes the right decisions, and as one of the tweets below alludes to, he really is a manager’s dream.
There is no nonsense, just good, old-fashioned hard-work and determination. The best part about it? He absolutely loves playing the beautiful game, and he always crosses the white line with a smile on his face.
As you’d imagine, United fans were overjoyed with the display, and there were some cracking tweets floating about on social media. We’ve compiled the best ones below.

Feel like a proud dad. From watching Jesse Lingard in the FA Youth Cup Final back in 2011, to see him lighting up the #WorldCup with a spectacular strike. It's the stuff dreams are made of. pic.twitter.com/ITHPQyhh7M

Tired of the lingard vs Ronaldo debate. Let’s just enjoy them both while we can.

Cant get over how much Jesse Lingard has improved over the last two years. Insane development. Delighted for him – hard work does pay off. Two superb performances at his first World Cup.

Look at Lingard's run for the second. He must be a coach's dream. He's so, so good (the odd crap finish aside, even tho he scores stunners too). You're a total berk if you can't see it with him.
