18-year old striker Angelo Henriquez has joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season, the youngster has found his chances at Old Trafford non-existent so far, so a loan move is the best possible option for all parties. Henriquez shone at Universidad de Chile before making his move to England in the summer.
He is arguably one of the brightest young talents at the club, and before joining, always stated United would be his preferred destination. United also had a clause in his contract saying they’d have first refusal on the Chilean until 2014, and when rivals City started enquiring about him, United came in and paid £4million for the youngster.
Roberto Martinez said: “We’re really excited about Angelo because he is a very young man with a huge potential; he’s a goal-scorer with clever movement inside the box and has had a very successful time with his former club Universidad.” The Latics boss continued. “We hope to have a good partnership in terms of allowing Angelo to develop as a footballer and learn of the demands of the English game, because I feel he can bring us something different in the forward line.
The youngster may feature against Bournemouth on Saturday in Wigan’s FA Cup Third round tie, and that’d be the perfect opportunity to show both United and Wigan exactly what he can do.
Martinez added: “I’m sure the fans will give him a great welcome on Saturday and it will provide him with the perfect opportunity to begin his experiences on the pitch in English football which is very exciting.”
Whether or not this a good move for the youngster, only time will tell. It says a lot about him already when Premier League clubs are coming in for him, so hopefully he can go to Wigan and make a positive impact, just as Tom Cleverley did a couple of seasons ago.
Upon signing for Wigan, Henriquez stated: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am really excited after the manager has given this chance for me to prove myself. Now I need to work to try and earn my place in the team.”
Good luck Angelo!
Good luck Henrique. Hope u come back a better player.
