United overcame a tough defensive performance from the Romanian Champions CFR Cluj last night, a brace from our new star-striker Robin van Persie helped us turn around an early 1-0 defect to leave us top of the group with a 100% win record, obtaining six points out of a possible six.
United conceded early once again after some lackadaisical defending allowed Kapetanos to give the home side an early advantage after just 14 minutes. United were level just before the half-hour mark albeit in somewhat fortuitous fashion. A mistimed leap at attempt to head the ball came off Van Persie’s shoulder and the ball looped over the oncoming keeper. The comeback was complete just after a half-time, a superb lobbed pass by Wayne Rooney allowed RvP to coolly slot home and complete his brace.
