Midfielder Houssem Aouar has turned down a Man United offer, choosing to move to Eintracht Frankfurt instead…
Manchester United’s squad is still not exactly how Erik ten Hag would want it, with the Dutchman already having one eye on the summer transfer window.
Several players have been linked with exits, even more have been rumoured with potential Old Trafford switches. Amongst them is Houssem Aouar.
The Lyon man is a free agent this summer, with Europe’s elite circling around to sign the French-born Algerian.
However, United have been beaten to his signature, according to SPORT1 journalist, Patrick Berger.
Apparently, the 24-year-old turned down a Man United proposal over the summer. He’s now set to join Eintracht Frankfurt as a free agent. Although nothing is signed yet, negotiations are in ‘advanced stages’, with his base salary set to be worth around £2.6m per year.
I don’t doubt Berger’s information, though I do question just how concrete United’s offer to Aouar was? Surely he’d choose United over Eintracht Frankfurt, for both football and financial reasons…
I reckon United made some tentative enquiries abut Aouar, just to put the feelers out there and see if he was serious about leaving Lyon. Obviously, that’s true, but the Red Devils probably didn’t firm up their interest with an official offer.
The only other possible reason for turning down United is that he’d already given Frankfurt a gentlemen’s agreement and the player now feels like he cannot go back on his word.
There’s no doubt that Aouar has the potential to go right the way to the top in this game. Perhaps a move to a club like Eintracht is a nice building block, before a move to a European giant in a couple of years.
