How Man United could line up with De Jong & Malacia

Man United are close to signing Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia, but where will these guys fit into the starting XI?

After a pretty slow start to the transfer window in terms of incoming, Manchester United Football Club are now close to making two key additions.

Fees have been agreed for both Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia, with their additions looking imminent at this point.

Credit where it’s due, the club seem to be closing in on two of Erik ten Hag’s most desired signings. Hopefully, they’re complete before our pre-season tour which starts in just over a week.

These are two key additions for a club who are in the middle of major overhaul. But where and how will both De Jong and Malacia fit into the Man United line-up?

Check out the XI with De Jong and Malacia included here:

First and foremost, Malacia’s place in the side is pretty obvious. He’s a left-back by trade, with Ten Hag a long-term admirer of the Dutch defender.

With Luke Shaw’s game still plagued by inconsistencies and Alex Telles now likely to be sold, Malacia is in an excellent place to challenge for starts from day one. Yes, he’ll need some time to settle into his new surroundings, though the talent and ability is obviously there.

De Jong is an entirely different beast. Due to the transfer fees mentioned and the recognisable name, he’s someone who’d expect to start matches from day one.

With Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic leaving, the 25-year-old will be guaranteed starts. No doubt for Ten Hag, De Jong will be amongst the first names on the team sheet.

United haven’t had that midfielder who can control the play for years. De Jong would bring that to the table, while his calming influence would almost certainly rub off on the rest of the squad.

Our line-up certainly looks a whole lot better with these two guys in it, though there’s still plenty of work to be done. Too many guys in this XI blow hot and cold, from Diogo Dalot to Scott McTominay, with a little Marcus Rashford in between. All should be vulnerable as we begin the 2022/23 season.

Do you think De Jong and Malacia will make good additions for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. Man.Utd should have atleast signed one new playe to play the upcoming match. Whereas, all other clubs have, in order to see something good for them to even start the season on a good note. How come the fans always hear disappointing news about Man.Utd most of the time?
