Huge blow as Spaniard could miss rest of Man United’s season: report

Manchester United Football Club take on West Brom later today, with Jose Mourinho’s men looking to continue their rise up the Premier League table. However, our task certainly hasn’t been made any easier, with the boss confirming long-term injuries to both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

Now, we’ve been given another alarming injury update, and it concerns Juan Mata. The Manchester Evening News understand that the Spaniard was complaining about a groin injury in training this week, and later had surgery on it. The report adds that Manchester United fear he could miss the remainder of the season.

It’d be just our luck, wouldn’t it? Particularly given that Juan Mata has been oh so reliable since arriving at the Theatre of Dreams over three years ago now, and he hasn’t missed a game through injury believe it or not.

If this news is true and we lost him for the rest of the campaign, Jose Mourinho would be in a right mess. We’ve got a pretty hectic April schedule ahead, given the fact that we’re still in the Europa League and we’re also a game behind our Premier League rivals.

Not only would we be losing a player, we’d be without one of our better performers this year, and Mata always tends to play his best football when the pressure is on.

In terms of a replacement, it’ll probably mean more playing time for the likes of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, who have both been on the periphery of things recently.
