Manchester United Football Club made one of the biggest free transfers in the history of the game last summer, when Jose Mourinho made the move to bring in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The influential Swede scored a brilliant 28 goals in all competitions, before going down with a season-ending injury against RSC Anderlecht.
Since then, it became questionable as to whether the Old Trafford club would be willing to renew his contract, as his current deal was set to expire this summer.
It was also unclear as to whether Ibrahimovic himself wanted to stay in the Premier League, but now his agent Mino Raiola has confirmed that his client would love to stay at the very top of the game – and with Manchester United.
“Oh, yes. He wants to stay in England, he wants to stay at the top, and if he sees that he can be a valuable asset for Manchester United, then why not Manchester United?” Raiola told TalkSPORT.
First of all, obviously he’d love to stay here as United are giving him a colossal amount of money. The only concern for me is that just how long is he going to be out of action for? Let’s not forget he tore two ligaments, both his anterior and his posterior, and that will not be easy to come back from, particularly for a man of his age.
If he can get himself ready for September or October time then I’d be all for giving him another contract until the end of next season, but if it is any longer than that then I’d definitely have my fair share of concerns.
Jose Mourinho is a coach who knows him better than anyone, and whatever decision our manager makes is one I’ll be 100% happy with. With that said, it’ll definitely be interesting to see how this one plays out.
