Incoming signings now expected ‘imminently’ at Man United

It seems as though we could finally about to see some signings being made by Man United.

Thus far, we Manchester United supporters have been disappointed at the lack of incoming transfer business that has taken place.

Players have confirmed their departures from the club, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata leading the way. It’s expected that more will follow.

Perhaps the idea is to sell first, then giving Erik ten Hag a clearer picture as to how much money he has to spend. When you do that, though, you risk missing out on your primary targets as other clubs jump in their first.

Well, in a fascinating and insightful piece from Goal, detailing the structural issues at Old Trafford, it’s claimed that incoming signings are now ‘expected imminently’ at United.

In terms of players named, Christian Eriksen, Frenkie de Jong and Antony all get a mention by the author James Robson. All of whom feel like primary targets for Ten Hag.

With so many holes in this current squad, it’s nigh-on impossible to fill them all in one window. You do get the feeling that midfield has been identified as the problem position.

The likes of Scott McTominay and Fred have improved over the last couple of years, though they still sometimes fall way short of the mark and both have inconsistencies within their game.

There’s no doubt bringing in someone like De Jong would stand us in far better stead going into 2022/23. Let’s hope that the Dutchman, who previously had doubts about making the move to Manchester, buys into the Ten Hag project.

De Jong shouldn’t be the only signing, mind. I’d like to think at least five additions are made, but with pre-season training starting next week, I’m starting to get a little concerned.
