Injury causes Ander Herrera to miss out on first Spain cap

Ander Herrera has another reason to be upset this morning, as according to reports, the 25-year old midfielder was set to earn his first call-up to the Spanish national team before his injury. Our Spaniard has a fractured rib, which could keep him sidelined for around three weeks, and he’ll obviously be hugely disappointed.

Manchester United paid £27million to sign Herrera from Athletic Club Bilbao in the summer, and the Basque-born midfielder has been a revelation. Whether he is the real deal, or whether United fans are hyping him up even more because we’ve not seen a decent midfielder at Old Trafford in a few years is another matter, but one things for certain – he’s a fan favourite.

He seems to be one of those overseas players that ‘get’ United, and he seems to really love playing for our club. I’m gutted for him personally, as he more than deserves a call-up to the Spain side for his scintillating start to the season, and hopefully he can keep working hard and get called up at some point later in the season.

Does Herrera merit a call-up to the Spain squad? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.
