Iqbal & Savage ‘set to feature’ vs Rayo Vallecano

Both Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage will get one final chance to impress, as they’re going to be involved vs Rayo Vallecano.

Manchester United’s final weekend before the Premier League starts is a hectic one. First, a 21-strong squad have jetted off to Oslo to take on Atletico Madrid.

Tomorrow, Rayo Vallecano visit Old Trafford, which is technically the final pre-season game under Erik ten Hag. However, it was always widely expected that this would be the weaker of the two sides.

Well, The Times have the early scoop on who could feature. Apparently, Cristiano Ronaldo will play some part. However, we found the inclusion of another pair significantly more interesting.

The young duo of Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage are ‘set to feature’ in this game alongside Ronaldo, which is undoubtedly a massive confidence-booster for both of these lads.

Both Iqbal and Savage have shone on pre-season together. They’ve looked far more comfortable as a pair, which makes sense as they’ve come through the ranks together for years and years.

For Ten Hag, it’s one final chance to see what these teenage midfielders can do before a decision is made on their future.

With the Reds looking pretty thin in the middle of the park, I genuinely believe there’s a good chance that one (or both) will be kept around in order to provide some squad depth.

Sure, they won’t be starting games every week, but training with the first-team and learning from Ten Hag could end up proving more beneficial than going out on loan anyway. If they remain, they’ll also likely play some part, given the vast amount of games the Reds will play due to their Europa League participation.

Do you think either Zidane Iqbal or Charlie Savage will be given first-team chances this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
