Michael Carrick has been ever present at the heart of our midfield this season and the 31-year old has certainly gone an awful long way towards silencing some of his critics. It was confirmed by the FA that Michael has been withdrawn from the England squad due to an ankle injury, but I wonder whether he is actually injured…
With the Champions League starting up again next week, and a crucial Premier League game coming up against Everton before that, what a ridiculous time to have international friendlies. Carrick isn’t the only England casualty either with Sturridge and Defoe both being pulled out by their clubs.
Although a game against Brazil is of high importance and a great learning curve, you cannot help but think that Manchester United’s next two games are far more important than an international friendly.
Carrick has to be up there with the players who have played the most minutes for the club this season, and he is absolutely crucial to the team if we’re to have any success. At times like this he should be wrapped up in cotton wool, not going off to London to play in a meaningless game where he could run the risk of injury.
The international friendly can be helpful for some, though. Look at Danny Welbeck for example, he hasn’t featured much for United recently and the game time will certainly help him. Rooney is another player who needs the playing time, with Sir Alex recently stating that Wayne is a player who needs to be playing week-in week-out to maintain good form.
Heres to hoping that Carrick isn’t actually injured and it proves to be one of Sir Alex’s tactics to ensure the midfielder is fit and raring to go for the latter stages of the domestic season.
