Last month the word was that both Manchester clubs were interested in Argentine international Nico Gaitan. However his buyout clause was rumoured to be around the €45m and it is highly unlikely any club would be part with that kind of money.
However O Jogo (Portugese) are today running a story that this transfer is moving in the right direction and if United were to offer a couple of players and around €25m then this would help the deal go through. The players they mention are Bebe and the young Italian duo Federico Macheda and Davide Petrucci. Bebe is obviously from Portual, and he actually has a good reputation over there, so i could see that part being true. On the other hand i can’t see SAF wanting to let Davide Petrucci go as he is another up and coming bright young talent at our club, and the great man also seems to have a lot of faith in Macheda recently saying he has had back luck in terms of his recent loan moves.
The signing of Gaitan certainly makes sense as he plays the attacking midfield role, and as is well documented it’s exactly what United need if they want to compete on all fronts. The player himself seems keen on a switch to the Premier League and the Daily Mail has him quoted as saying:
“”Ever since the pre-season, it has been said that Manchester United are following me.”
“Then, Benfica met United in the Champions League group stage and I did not expect that Ferguson would talk about me before and after the game.”
Here’s to hoping that there is some truth in the rumour, and hopefully Fergie has realised that this type of player is the little bit of creativity we lack, our loss to Wigan last night definitely shows we still are weak in that area.
