Just over a month ago, Manchester United announced that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the permanent manager. The Red Devils’ hand was forced after some stunning displays from the team.
Since then, things have gone horribly wrong for the Baby Faced Assassin, so-much-so that Antonio Conte obviously believes he is in with a chance of landing the job.
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, translated by The Metro, it is being claimed that the Italian is delaying on making a decision following interest from both Inter Milan and AS Roma as he favours the United job…
After being out of work for a year, Conte is now ready to return to management, although he’s happy to bide his time as the potential opening at Old Trafford is the most ‘striking’ option to him at this stage in his career.
As we know all-too-well, that Chelsea team during Conte’s debut season in England was sensational. They defended brilliantly, N’Golo Kante was the midfield difference-maker and Eden Hazard, well, he flourished.
There’s no doubt that Conte is a great manager in fits and spurts, but United no longer need the quick-fix, this is a rebuilding job that will take time, several years at least, and I’d much prefer to see a more attack-minded manager given time to rebuild the legacy.
